DRIFT TRAINING AT THE PRODRIFT ACADEMY
The Prodrift Academy Drift Training program has been designed to prepare students for professional drift competitions and to share the knowledge of how to be competitive at professional drift events.
The program has been divided into many categories over multiple levels(rookie, semi-pro, pro) and each level has been designed to give student’s step-by-step training of the key drift techniques utilized by professional drifters.
Level up
Just like a video game, the challenge for the Prodrift Academy students is to keep leveling up until finishing the full 10 level program. Along the levels the students will be rewarded with level completion gifts such as t-shirts, gloves, certificates, race shirts etc. At the final level, the student will be challenged to take on the end of level boss, a professional drift circuit.
Training program
The Prodrift Academy prides itself on delivering a world class training program. As each Prodrift Academy student is an individual, we customize our training program to suit the student’s specific requirements. Prodrift will create a customized training program based on the clients experience and goals. As with any technique sport the key to learning how to be a professional drifter is technique and practice. The Prodrift Academy training format is a step by step process and is beginner friendly.
Prodrift will create an individual training plan for every student based on what they want to achieve. This plan will track the students progress as they climb the levels and highlight the strengths and weaknesses of their skill set.
If the student has some prior drift experience, upon arrival to one of our training facilities they will complete a drift assessment. Their existing drift skills will be added to their file and a customized training plan will then be created.

Program Design: Kieran Hynes
The Prodrift Academy training program has been designed and developed by the one of the most internationally recognized drift judges in the world, Kieran Hynes. Kieran is the head judge of the IDC, BDC, ODC and Drift Masters. He has created this training program to prepare Prodrift Academy students to be instantly competitive when entering a professional drift event.
Training program: 5 key principles
The key principles of the Prodrift Academy training program are all based on professional drift event judging criteria.
The 5 key principles of the Prodrift Academy training program are:
- Line
The most important judged criteria of any professional drift event is Drift Line. It defines the position of the drift car in the corner as specified by the judges. A driver will be deducted heavily if they maneuver away from the Drift line.
- Speed
A drift competitor who has good speed throughout a drift course will be very difficult to chase and rewarded by the judges. Grip is a major factor when finding speed and competing in a professional drift event.
- Angle
Drivers are scored on the amount of angle their car carries through the course.
The maximum amount of angle is not important, it is how the angle is maintained throughout the run.
- Style
Style is a subjective judging criteria. It differs from country to country. The Prodrift Academy cannot teach style but we can assist our students in understanding how to create a style of their own.
- Time
Although not a criteria used in professional drifting competitions, the Prodrift Academy time our students over specific tracks as a measure of progress. The stop watch does not lie when showing driver development.
Venues: Prodrift Academy training facilities
The Prodrift Academy training facilities have been built to allow our students maximum track time in order to perfect their drift technique. Our facilities are designed to create the perfect learning environment for our students in order for them to continuously develop their drift skills.

Cars: Training & Pro Cars
The Prodrift Academy has 2 categories of drift vehicle in its fleet, training and pro cars.
Training cars(black): Our training cars are designed to teach our students drift technique. Maximum track time and comfort are required to ensure our students develop their drift skills at a constant rate.
Pro cars(green): Our Pro cars are setup for traction. We now simulate how a professional drift car handles and grips in order to prepare our students for competition drifting. The student must now accustom themselves to rollcages, bucket seats, maximum angle and loud exhausts.

Format
At the Prodrift Academy we train our students over multiple levels at a time. The maximum a student can train is 3 levels in one day(4 hours). Example: Level 1, 2 and 3.

DRIFT TRAINING – Rookie (Training cars)
Please note that with any technique sport, practice is essential. We offer our students maximum track time in order to allow them to perfect their technique and develop consistency in their driving.
Each level takes approximately 1 hour of driving time to complete

Prodrift Academy students will now start their training program with a variety of techniques across multiple levels of training.
Starting with the most important basic drift techniques, our rookie training program has been designed to provide students with the essential techniques required to become a drifter. The first technique our students have to master is throttle balance and timing followed by counter steer.
Next we progress to one of the most important factors of professional drifting, Drift Line. Here we see the introduction of clipping points, inside and outside, front and rear of the car track positioning. The student must now learn how to control and position the car on request.
The final step on our Rookie program, a graduation course. We now design a new track layout in order is to test our students and reward them with a certificate and gifts on completion.

DRIFT TRAINING – Semi Pro
The Semi Professional program has been designed for students who want to enter the world of drift competition. Here, the students will transition from our training cars to our professional drift cars.

Our students will now begin to drive our professional drift cars and learn to adapt their driving style to a car with extra rear grip. An aggressive driving style is now required as the car will attempt to grip at every corner
We now focus on advancing our students technique but also sharing information on the dynamics behind drift car setup and parts. Over numerous new levels we will work with our students on their precision and accuracy with a drift car.
The Prodrift academy team will now simulate a professional drift event to acclimatize our students to the event format of professional drifting.
We will assist the student, step by step as to how an event schedule works and how to prepare their car and team
On completion of the Semi Pro training program our students will be tested with a simulated professional event format. Practice, Qualifying and competition.
DRIFT TRAINING – PROFESSIONAL

Professional Championship track layout
The Professional level is the final stage of our training program. Students will learn the core attributes of professional drifting including driver management, driver presentation, sponsorship, team management etc.
A professional drift track layout will now be used as the final test for our Prodrift Academy students.
ALTERNATIVE options
GROUP TRAINING:
Our group training course caters for a maximum of 4 students who have booked a group session together. The group will be assigned a car and an instructor for the course duration with each member rotating throughout the session.
